If you can play guitar and sing, you can probably get a gig down the road playing at a restaurant, but don’t throw your life away chasing something that is so elusive it will only lead you to regret and may turn you bitter. – Cliff Rechard
Guitar is one of the most popular musical instrument around the world. Musicians use guitar be it acoustic or electric for almost every kind of music. Without a guitar, country and western songs would not be the same. The old-fashioned Spanish folk music called Flamenco also could not exist without a guitar. The sound of American blues music would not be the same without the guitar. And rock and roll music would almost be impossible without guitar. So, you see guitar is the most important in the long list of musical instrument.
One could argue that invention of guitar helped revolutionize the world in the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. Many of the artists that influenced thinking back then would not have been able to achieve the same sounds without the electric guitar. Guitars are the important musical instrument because they provide additional sound to any composition, whether it is classical, jazz, or rock and can be made to sound in many ways to add texture to said composition. The guitar is present in every genre of music, and the only instrument to have completely cut across all boundaries of race or religion.
As a guitarist, it helps you to express yourself, entertain others, and achieve a Zen-like state as you noodle around on them. It creates an emotional connection with the person/audience listening to it. If you play guitar, you will find that it is not just a musical instrument, it is actually a part of your soul. And if you don’t play it then you should start practicing it from today.
I am Rex, I have 40 years’ experience as a musician, music instructor, arranger and performing artist and I have founded Guitar Confidence to teach music to anyone who wants to learn it. As a guitar instructor, I have met guitar students who could not actually play anything even though they took lessons from some of the reputed institutes. That was because they were missing certain pieces of knowledge about the art of practicing guitar which in turn created a hurdle in their progress. My most important advice to all my guitar students is to practice guitar with passion.
