Guitar & Sax Students & Pros Perform
“Just The Two Of Us” I stuck to the basic original recording featuring “Bill Withers”. I assigned the melody to guitars and saxes and then opened it up for all student sax players as well as professional solos on Baritone Sax by Brenda Thompson and Flute solo by professional saxophonist Max Pricco. At the ending when we are vamping out( repeating chorus over and over) there is a great guitar solo by professional blues guitarist Adam Gabriel. On the intro you can hear me using volume pedal to get that crying sound a la “Larry Carlton”.
Just the Two of Us – performed by RGS Rock Ensemble
The RGS Rock Ensemble was a great experience for all involved. I had the pleasure of performing with the group for several years in the late 90’s / early 2000’s. Rex did an incredible job bringing professional musicians together with student musicians, writing all the arrangements, conducting all rehearsals and performing with the group at venues such as Oakland A’s baseball games, The Dean Lesher Auditorium in Walnut Creek, 4th of July Festivals in Napa park and Chili Cook Offs and other outdoor events in the East Bay. What a great learning experience for Rex’s guitar students and other the young aspiring musicians to perform with professionals like Orestes Vilato (Santana), Jeff Tamelier (Tower of Power), Adam Gabriel (Professional Blues Guitarist) and many others.
