“Reading a book about management isn’t going to make you a good manager any more than a book about guitar will make you a good guitarist, but it can get you thinking about the most important concepts” – Drew Houston
Can you identify that one error which you might commit when you are learning guitar? Well, there will be numerous errors while you are practicing guitar, however, that one error or one mistake which matter the most is practicing something wrong over and over again. Practicing a wrong move will only make you a bad guitar player. Motor learning which is also referred to as muscle memory is the ability to repeat a step to the point where it does not require conscious effort. The thing about motor learning is that it cannot differentiate between the right and wrong move. It will learn and retain bad movement just the same as it will good movement.
This is why it is so important to plan your practice well and keep analyzing and reviewing what and how you are practicing. Even with things that you think you have excel, do not take them for granted. Go back to the basics and keep practicing; analyze your pick angle, wrist movement, finger placement, level of relaxation, etc. Understand what is not working and where you are making mistake. Even if it is a small thing, fix it. This will elevate your overall playing.
